Hand Made Birthday Card with Die Cut Feathers

Hi everyone, here's a card I made for my daughter's birthday, I actually made it about a month ago as soon as we got the Feathers die set in stock, but have had to wait to blog it until I had given it to her.  The die set has three separate dies that cut three different shapes and sizes of feather, I can see that I will be going back to this set frequently as feathers are such a versatile symbol, they would even work on cards for men!

The background for the card is made using Pixie Powder, another favourite product of mine, I used Peacock Green which also has some blue in it and then a little bit of gold over the green. The combination of turquoise and gold feels very bold and rich.

Hand made birthday card with Pixie Powder background and die cut feathers

  • Start with a white A6 blank card and layer it with matt gold card.
  • Cut a piece of watercolour paper 9.5 x 13.75cm, spritz it with a little water to dampen it the gently tap the Peacock Green Pixie Powder onto it, spritz with more water until you have the desired effect, then dry with a heat gun. Add a few touches of Rich Gold Pixie Powder and again spritz lightly and dry off. Adhere this panel to the card front.
  • Die cut two different feathers, one in gold and one in turquoise and adhere them to the centre of the card front leaving the tips unglued so that they can lift up from the card to add some dimension.
  • Die cut Happy three times in gold card and glue them on top of one another to create a thicker more dimensional word, adhere this to the card below the feathers.
  • Cut a strip of water colour paper and stamp the birthday word in turquoise, trim the ends of the strip at an angle and adhere to the card just below the word Happy using 1mm foam pads.
  • Finish it off with gold sequins.
I am happy to say that my daughter liked it very much, as an Art graduate she can be a tough customer so it was a relief!
Thank you for visiting, I hope you like it too, all the supplies used are linked below.
Happy crafting
