Hand Made Christmas Card with Fairy Doors

Hi everyone, I have been trying out some of the new stamps and dies from the Creative Expressions Willowby Woods collection that is now in stock on the website. I really enjoyed making the Oak Hollow card but this time I wanted to try something different. So I made a Christmas card using the Fairy Doors stamp set and Fairy Doors die set. It also gave our new Stitched Hexagon dies a first run out.

I started with a white 5 x 7 inch blank card and layered it with gold, then green card. I die cut 3 stitched hexagon shapes from white card and stamped a different fairy door on to each one. I coloured the doors with Copic markers, then die cut them with the co-ordinating Fairy Door dies. 

The Fairy Door dies cut a slightly perforated line around the door with a small finger flap at the bottom, so that the doors are closed tight to begin with but can be gently pulled open using the flap.

I die cut several small Christmas trees and a couple of branches of winter foliage, I used a paint brush to paint embossing ink onto the edges of the trees and branches, and above and below the fairy doors. I heat embossed these areas with Sparkling Snow embossing powder to give a lovely snowy look. 

To assemble the card I put a peel off picture behind each of the doors as a surprise element, adhered the Christmas trees beside the doors, mounted the hexagons on 1mm adhesive foam pads and tucked the winter branches under the hexagons and glued them in place. Here you can see the open doors with the peel off pictures inside them.

I stamped the greeting in embossing ink and heat embossed it in gold. This was adhered using 2mm foam tape to lift it above the hexagon that it overlaps.

I am really pleased with this card, not to mention glad to get a Christmas card made quite early. It occurred to me that as the doors stay closed when they have been die cut you could use them to make a fairy themed advent calendar too. I hope you like it, thank you for visiting.
