Hand Made Kindness Card Stencilled with Coloured Texture Paste

Hi Everyone, my next stencilling technique uses texture paste through the stencil but the texture paste has been coloured with distress ink first. As the texture paste is white it lightens the colour of the ink when they are mixed so it is easy to achieve these lovely pastel colours.

Hand Made Kindness Card Stencilled with Coloured Texture Paste

Start with a piece of white card approximately 11 x 15cm, tape it to a board or cutting mat or some type of firm surface and tape the stencil over it.

Press the corner of a distress ink pad onto your craft mat to put down a little ink, you really don't need much and can always add more if you want to achieve a stronger colour. The colours used for this card are Wilted Violet, Festive Berries and Fossilized Amber. Scoop a small amount of texture paste out of the tub with a spatula and mix it with the ink on the craft mat until they are both combined and you are happy with the colour. Using the spatula, spread the texture paste over the stencil to cover the required area. Repeat this with different colours of ink until the whole stencil is coloured, you can arrange as many colours as you want in whatever design you want. Once the stencil is covered use the edge of the spatula to gently scrape off any excess paste, the carefully lift off the stencil and leave it until the texture paste is dry. It usually takes 15 - 20  minutes, which gives you time to go and clean your stencil, spatula and craft mat before the paste dries on them.

Once the stencilled panel is dry, trim off the edges to 9.5 x 14cm, using a circle frame die, cut a partial circle shape half way down the right hand side of the panel. Cut a piece of purple card to 10 x 14.5cm, lay the stencilled panel over it and position the next size down circle die inside the existing cut out and hold it in place with a piece of stencil tape. Take the panel off and die cut the smaller circle from the purple card.

Take an A6 white card blank and trim it to 14.5cm high, attach the purple card to cover the whole card front and stamp the word "kind" in purple ink inside the circle. Attach the stencilled panel over the purple card using double sided tape.

Cut a strip of purple card, stamp and heat emboss with Opaque White the rest of the sentiment and attach this with adhesive foam pads across the edge of the cut out circle above the stamped word.

I love the textured effect of the embossing paste. The fact that you can use any colour combination, with any stencil means you could make this card fit any occasion. I hope you like it too please leave a comment below to let me know what you think or to ask a question about the card or technique if you have one.
Thanks for reading

  2. Hi Carol, there are so many things available to us these days and so many ways to use them, it's hard to know what to do first and it's no surprise that we either forget things or don't think of them :)

  3. All of your cards were beautiful, Debbie. But I really liked this one. I always wanted to try out stenciling technique, but not yet tried out. I guess little afraid to try something that is outside of my comfort zone. You really inspired me to try it out, now just figuring out the right time to play around with it :)!
